My friend started a contest so he could gather names for his business and created a group for the contest.

He was fairly new to Facebook and didn't know that after 5000 members he wouldn't be able to message them anymore.

So what could he do now to get in contact with all of his members (to at least announce the winner).??

I don't think it's possible. If he wants, he can create a fan page instead, and market it through status updates on his group.

I'm almost certain he can still create events and invite people to join his group. I'm not so sure about mass inviting.

The account that hosted the only group I ever created was deleted a couple of weeks back, so I can't be certain on any of this.

he can't do anything after 5k, groups are pretty much useless when above 5k. As someone suggested delete members until you're below 5k.

What I suggested is he create an event to encourage people to join his fan page instead and once he's satisfied with the results, to start deleting people from his group to get it down to 5k and start messaging them so they can join the Fan page as well.

Is there anything else he could do to help migrate his group members to his new fan page?

Nope. There's nothing else you can do to migrate his group members to his fan page other than just "telling" his group members, either on his business website and on his FB profile page, to join the fan page. If he collected emails, a broadcast message would be good.

Hmm, come to think of it, are their any email harvesters for FB?
