Ranking Position 4 to 5 and No Traffic?

I'm ranking position 4 to 5 in Google for a keyphrase that has 5,400 global searches and 5,400 local searches for the previous month. The niche is something in the medical field. I've confirmed my ranking position from my location and other people that I know around the USA.

My question is, how come I'm barely receiving any traffic? I may receive about 3 adsense impressions per day.

I have another website in the same field that is pretty much in the same boat as this one and it makes a few bucks per day...maybe 1 to 3 clicks per day at 30 to 50 page adsense impressions.

I basically rinsed and repeated what I did on the previous site. I'm wondering what's the difference? They both had about the same monthly traffic, according to google.

Use google trends to see if the search for that kw is declining. Try to get #1 position to see if it improves. It should.

"Your terms - xxx - do not have enough search volume to show graphs."

Even so, there is definitely search volume for them. It's apparent with my other site...it's is nearly the same keyphrase, just slightly different.

Just for an example...one site may be like:

BrokenFootRecovery and the other may be BrokenHandRecovery...it's a very slight difference.

...are these broad or exact?

Often broad searches turn into zilch when you check for exact searches

They are exact micro niche terms.

well depends on which position you get. First page doesn't guarantee anything - I read a study once that first position gets like 80% of the clicks, the remainder gets distributed down the rest of the listing.. and the middle positions get the least clicks.

For competition of 5400 pages, getting at number one will be an hour job. Just create linking from 10-15 web2.0 properties, Mix all web2.0 feed together at rssmix and submit that to Feed aggregator/directories. If possible, ping all those feed and thats it you will be at number one in a day time

I have seen similar results in the past myself. Here is the problem, search traffic starts out at position 1 and trickles down the results from there.

A #1 position usually gets around 40% of the search traffic and a #2 position will get about 11% of the traffic, it declines from there. So, if you are in #5, you will see hardly any of the traffic coming to that search term.

Cornell University did a similar study a few years ago and determined that more than 50% of all search traffic went to the #1 position and then again between 11% and 15% to the number 2 position.

Basically, if you want to see the money coming in, shoot for #1 or find a search term with more traffic.

Spot #1 get 42% of all clicks.

I have a nichesite where Market Samurai says Im at place 2 at google. Seo Rankchecker is saying its place 11. Huge difference and from the traffic I would say Rankchecker is right.
