let's say that there are a lot of websites that are competing for the same keyword - who will rank first in your opinion :

- Website 1 : 2000+ Words Article - 0 ref domains to the article - DR 5 - good on site seo
- Website 2 : 1000 word Article - 5 Ref domain - DR 35 - good on site seo
- Website 3 : 1000 word article - 3 Ref Domains - DR 2 - Has already published something around 10 articles about sub topics with good on site seo
- Website 4 : 700 word article - 35 ref domains - DR 20 - good onsite

I would say number 2.

Probably the one with max time on page will eventually climb up
That's a legit indication that users got what they wanted

You're totally ignoring:

1. Search intent
2. Content quality and user experience
3. How good are the clusters for #3
4. Speed
5. Interlinking
6. Suggestions to related posts

Fools still believe they can make a judgement based on word count + DR + number of articles previously posted ....muahahaha

I think OP wishes that he could just delete this whole thread and forget about asking this question! : - )

that would really depend on the search intent and already ranking pages for the word count,
apart from that, the RD and RDs are not enough to check the link profile, the quality and type of links could make a huge difference,
overall, there are no fixed terms to make a blind comparison, neither you can in a live one, what does matter is sticking the working factors and improving as much as possible to hit the 1st spots

The one that pays google for ads

I would say website 3 will have more effect on seo. So that one i can say it.

Just based on my experiences, in my opinion, of the alternative websites you have listed, the one that will rank first is the site that truly nails the search intent of the keyword being targeted.

A lot of people think in terms of shortcuts.

They believe that just because an article is longer that this factor alone will get them over the top.

It doesn't work that way!

Similarly, a lot of people think that even if they have a very short and crappy article that doesn't really answer the search intent of the keyword their targeting, but if they bombard it with decent quality links, they will get to the top.

Both of these approaches are wrong, not just immediately but also in the long term.

If you want to build a serious website, not only should you write longer content that truly dominates your competitors in terms of comprehensiveness, levels of engagement as well as overall quality, but you have to nail the search intent of the keywords you are targeting.

It's not solely about content anymore. There are several factors that go into ranking nowadays.

Firstly, people above me have mentioned, searcher's intent matters. Google has been evolving and specifically, evolving to base search results to be whatever the algorithm thinks the searcher is looking for directly & what other searchers have gotten the most value from.

Along with that is speed of the website, consistency of posts, social media interactions and finally on-page SEO which has multiple bullet points within.

Long, informative content with images, videos, and coordinated on-page SEO really can dominate. It's not about a simple 1000 word article with 1 image anymore.
