My site got hit by December update and since then my traffic tanked, it doesn't look like it is going to go up.

Things I have done so far
  • Reduced the number ads
  • Fixed broken links and all GSC errors
  • Increased the site speed
  • Disavowed bad backlinks
  • Updated old articles and interlinked orphan pages.
Even after doing all of this, nothing is working.

What will you do if you were in my shoes or what best suggestions can you give me concerning this site?

Literally the same happened to my site. I've lost like 70-80% of my traffic and I have no idea why. I've done a ton of research on what to do and the only logical answer is to just wait for the next big update (most likely in May), especially if your website got hit very hard like mine. Also, some people say that it's a good idea to avoid making any major changes until the next update.

Wait for the next update or sell the site. I would've sold it.
The proposed may core update? Selling it won't be profitable due to the low traffic

This happened to my sites as well and I really didn't know the issue at first as well. I lost about 80% of traffic (went from 4-5k a day to 600-700 visitors a day).

But if you guys happen to run affiliate websites, have a look at this: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/guidelines/affiliate-programs.

That article is last updated at 11-11-2020, so that's a short while before the update(s) started.

Almost all my articles were more or less affiliate orientated, and I suspect that is the issue for me and perhaps that might be your issue too.

I'm now in the process of reducing affiliate links on every article a lot and I'm also going to add more content at a 3 to 1 ratio. So every one affiliate article will have at least three non affiliate (informative) articles.

So hopefully all of the above will fix it.

Thanks, it's not an affiliate site. I monetize it using adsense and adskeeper

Create other sites. Build more nests. Not all eggs ik one site, man

I would wait, maybe it will recover in the future, and work on other sites in the meantime. I like that increase in January in impressions and clicks. I would also try to find other traffic sources like list building or pinterest. How many articles do you have?

I really don't see it how your site got hit by the December update... your clicks and impressions went up a lot at the end of December and January was a good month.

The site got hit, from 1.5k daily pageviews to 500, now it's less than 100...

Thanks. I have about 240 articles, I pin my featured images on pinterest and I am also building my list.

The problem is management, imagine after spending time and money to make a site successful then Google spoil everything. I'm trying to balance my academics and blogging, building more blogs will take away more time.

have you improved anything after the december update? like add more articles and backlinks?

when last december update happened, my site also got hit really hard traffic went down, but i keep build backlinks, adding more artices, and social share.

after 2 weeks traffic back to normal and increased continuously.

More articles but stopped building backlinks to avoid causing more problems

that leads to unnatural activity.
From what I see, one of your KWs went viral and you had a good month.
Now things are stabilizing and you are going back to your usual trend.
If you look at your past months, the trend is upwards then downwards, meaning a few things
1. were never stabilizing your KWs at that position
2. your KWs are going viral and then dying off.
Hard to speculate or analyze without more info besides a screenshot of your last 3 months clicks/imps
As for your average position, it looks very even and unchanging, so I personally don't see that you got hit.
You just need to work on onsite SEO, interlink some articles, and continue working on BL and see if it pushes further upwards.

then hire people to do the job for you. you have to think outside the box. You cant do everything on your own

Same happened to me. After years of hard work now my site can barely manage to get 150 visitors a day. Worst part is I dropped a pretty penny on some Pro SEO services from here and I've had no luck getting back to where I was (~ 1000 visitors per day). I'm really just thinking of throwing in the towel because I honestly think SEO is bs and completely random it seems.

Update: Site seems to be recovering after the June & July algorithm updates. I left the site since then after disavowing the bad links and deleting useless articles.
