Hey Guys,

I just spent the last few days moving from digital ocean (could not be bothered with managing errors myself) to Hostgator, i'm looking at the reviews: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/hostgator.com they are getting slated big time, are they really that bad? i used them 10+ years ago, they were the in thing, should i move again or is this just competition giving them bad reviews?

Luckily i got the first month for 0.01c lol it's just the time to move all sites is a pita lol

cheers guys

I have had a pretty good experience with them, never trust those reviews blindly as the majority of the people who have a good experience don't spend time browsing review sites sharing their pleasant experiences.

It also depends on what plan and server you buy though, if you have really big sites(hundreds and thousands of visits), you might need to look at their top plans because too much traffic can destroy the shared hosting/small VPS but that's an issue with almost every host. Don't consider the unlimited to really be unlimited.

They were bought by EIG 8 years ago, and they stripped hostgator down to maximize profits (including outsourcing support to incompetent workers and I'm pretty sure they cram more sites per server on shared hosting, etc.). Garbage company. Wouldn't recommend anything run by EIG, they really do suck.

I did notice their tech support was lacking certain skills on livechat that the guys years ago would have fixed easily, i have the middle baby plan, for 0.01 i'll give them a try for a month or 2 :)

cheers guys

I moved from them after they were engulfed by EIG, they really are to hosting what Go-Daddy is to domain registrars = Cheap, crappy and targeting noobies attracted by price.

Of so much users on HostGator of course there is someone who didn't like it.

Reviews refer to experience someone had. You might have another one. They are under EIG umbrella and as for the other user reports on various forums service is not on the same level is that used to be.

Better transfer to good host.

Use search option on top right corner to find previous discussions about hosting and recommendation.

For around $3 a month you can find decent web host that has a member here on forum, so I would not risk with hostgator after reading so many bad reviews lately everywhere online.

For me, sounds like you downgraded. I went from hostgator to DO 2 years ago and i couldn't be much happier.

Do yourself a favor and go with something like Namecheap if you want cheap and good hosting.
