I understand what you are saying. My aunt was profoundly retarded, so I understand your sensitivity towards the word. She had to be in a hospital setting, as she could not cope with the outside world. I rarely got to see her.

It was meant to be offensive ONLY towards the idiots who have repeatedly hacked this site.

This was not aimed at anyone who is retarded or has relatives that have been afflicted with such a horrible disease.

I have come to the defense of many a person who was being made fun of in school by those that did not understand that it is not cool to make light of those with disabilities.

Speaking of your son, what type of autism does he suffer from? And does he receive therapy for his autism (I am guessing that he may be of school age)?

Studies have shown that the earlier treatment begins for autistic children, the better the outcomes.

I do apologize to you for any upset that my statement may have caused you. We fathers are very protective of our children and so I do understand how that word would have affected you.
