howdy,

This may be a newb question, but I can't seem to find it by searching on Google.

Essentially, I'm aiming to buy a domain but the keywords are good. It's a short domain. All websites I have found want to charge me 4 & 5 figures for the domain despite it being unregistered.

Is there any solution to this? If I can be a crummy domain for a dollar because it's unregistered, why can't I buy a good one for the same?

I also have this doubt. Even if price is high, shouldn't it be same everywhere?
No, it shouldn't ve the same. Why? If I'm selling you the same product $50 cheaper than my competitors where will you buy it? From me of course.

Probably you are looking at a premium domain?
It's technically not "unregistered", but registered by a broker/registrar (afaik..).

I'd say it's premium, although I'm not exactly sure what that means besides "desirable".

Icann tells me that no one currently has it registered.

Yeah, it seems that it is done by icann on purpose to allow registrars to have "premium" domain names. I am not completely sure how it works.

It's a premium domain bro. They can get really expensive, otherwise they would be registered already

Y'all aren't inspiring confidence in me re: the domain purchasing prospect. Lol.

I am grateful for your input. I think I have my answer. I have to shell out 4-5 figures or find some other domain.

Maybe as an aside, which services do you use to buy domains?

Use what you want but avoid GoDaddy, network solution, 1&1

You can try Cloudflare registrar. They are cheap and you will get free dnssec.

You should try also epik.com
My advice is to avoid uniregistry as they belong to godaddy anymore.
One more advice is, when you focus on a domain that looks like premium, make a search on a registrar that is not under godaddy umbrella.
Example: I own domain name 12345.com and I am adding the domain for sale on afternic without buy now price but only with make offer option. If someone is looking about this domain on uniregistry.com, name.com, godaddy.com will have a warning that this is a premium domain.
Be careful about this.
